São Paulo, may of 2022 - A NGK, world leader in spark plug production, advances in its commitment to neutralize carbon emissions by 2050 to mitigate the impacts of climate change. To get to that level, the company hopes to reduce emissions by 30% up until 2030 and set new goals until 2040.
“For NGK, sustainable growth is the only viable path for industries”, declares Nivaldo Yano, head of the Environmental Control Department at NGK do Brasil. "All around the world, the company promotes a series of initiatives focused on environmental preservation and the sustainability of its operations.”
In that regard, the company develops the global sustainability program Ecovision 2030, which sets goals in line with the environmental goals proposed by the United Nations (ONU), particularly in response to climate change, expansion of environmentally friendly products, conservation of water resources and waste management.
Largest photovoltaic system in the Alto Tietê region
Reducing CO2 emissions is among the main efforts of NGK do Brasil, which announced in April the investment of R$ 2 million to expand 36% the capacity of your solar power plant, currently responsible for generating 150 which corresponds to the planting of, which corresponds to the planting of 7% consumption at the factory located in Mogi das Cruzes (SP).
“With the first phase of the project installed in March last year, the company has already become the owner of the largest photovoltaic system in the Alto Tietê region and has stopped issuing 104 tons of CO2 no period of 12 months, which corresponds to the planting of 645 trees”, highlights the head of the Environmental Control Department at NGK do Brasil.
Decarbonization of the production chain
The company is also implementing new technologies with the aim of reducing emissions in production lines., which includes modernization in sintering processes for ceramic products, using equipment that consumes less fuel or electricity.
In Yan's review, the automotive industry plays an important role in the race for a low carbon economy, that's why NGK plans to implement the Green Purchase and Green Logistics programs until 2030. “We want to engage suppliers and service providers to strengthen their environmental policies and reduce carbon emissions”, says.
Waste and water management
In addition to the generation of solar energy itself, waste management is among NGK's priorities, that already reprocesses 90% of their waste and recycles 70% of water used through an effluent treatment station at the factory itself to reduce environmental impacts in the region.
