Niterra celebrates 64 years of operation in Brazil

A Niterra, global leader in spark plugs, celebrates 64 years in Brazil after a year of strategic change. The new name reflects commitment to sustainability and business expansion.

Japanese multinational celebrates its first anniversary after name change and strategy focused on sustainability issues

 

São Paulo, august 2023 – A Niterra, Japanese multinational company that owns the NGK and NTK brands, and global leader in the spark plug market, complete 64 years of operation in Brazil this August. The company arrived in Brazil in 1959 and built its first factory outside of Japan, in Mogi das Cruzes (SP), what do you have today 625 thousand m² and about 1,3 thousand professionals.

Globally recognized for the innovation present throughout its history, Niterra celebrates the first year under the new name and the success of its implementation. The move reflects both the company's journey towards continued expansion of its business and the ongoing transformations in the automotive industry..

By combining the Latin words niteo and terra, what do they mean, respectively, “shine” and “planet earth”, the name Niterra expresses the group's commitment to contributing to a more sustainable society and a brighter planet. Niterra became the global name, while the NGK brands (automotive components) this NTK (sensors) were kept for both businesses.

New name is a milestone in the group's history

The change of name to Niterra expresses the group's stance on building the future by expanding its business portfolio and solidifying itself as an environmentally sustainable company in expansion, in accordance with the NGK SPARK PLUG Long Term Management Plan 2030, that sets the direction of the organization in five different segments: Mobility; Medicine; Environment & Energy; Communications and Agribusiness.

According to Yuki Izuoka, presidente da NGK do Brasil, Niterra represents a milestone in the group's history, that increases its efforts to give even more priority to sustainability in the operation of the business. “We need to consider the preservation of the environment in every decision-making within the organization to provide effective contributions to the planet and add a new perspective of life to the next generations”, says.
